During my time as a working student at Mediadesign Innovation Hub, I had the pleasure of working with german filmmaker and comedian Michael “Bully” Herbig to develop a VR waterslide experience for the Therme Erding.

We used the Unity Engine to create a mine cart ride in a western themed environment, which was rendered in a first-person view. We then shot live-action video of Mr. Herbig at the Bavaria Film Studios which we then transposed onto our virtual ride to create the final product.

The application runs on a Samsung Galaxy smartphone placed in a VR headset, which calculates its location in real time using several beacons positioned along the water slide, enabling the software to synchronize the video almost perfectly to the actual forces experienced by the customer.
